Bob Cusack has spent the past 40-plus years logging countless air miles in Alaska from the seat of a floatplane, the vast majority being in the Iliamna/Katmai region. His safety record is unblemished, and his reputation as a bush pilot exceptional. He has flown his anglers into every known fishery in the area – as well as a few not so well-known – and can tell you when the first salmon will show up in each river annually, where the largest rainbows wait to inhale your feathered offerings, how to present your dry fly to rising grayling, and where to throw a mouse fly to provoke a strike from the area's largest northern pike. Bob's encyclopedic knowledge of the region translates into safe flying, superb fishing, and a million memorable stories from his past!
Bob and his crew of experienced guides work hard to give you the opportunity for a new fishing adventure every day of your fishing week. They are a short boat ride from the legendary Copper River and its legions of trophy rainbows, and a quick flight in Bob's Cessna 185 or Piper Super Cub to one of several other nearby prolific trout streams. You can fish small streams with dry flies, catching mid-sized rainbows all day long; dead drift egg patterns to visible trophies – trout and char - hanging behind acres of spawning salmon; swing streamers through larger runs for arm-jerking grabs; or even take a longer, spectacularly beautiful flight across the coastal mountains to fish an isolated river full of ocean-bright salmon and sea-run dolly varden. And for those who want to really mix it up, Bob can arrange for a day of fishing for big northern pike, fish which assault floating poppers with mind-blowing aggressiveness. Finally, for the intrepid and adventurous angler, there is the option for a multi-day float trip on the seldom-seen upper reaches of the Copper River. This is an experience that many consider the highlight of their Alaskan experience, catching big rainbows in small water, and truly immersing themselves in the Alaskan wilderness.
New to the fishing program at Cusack's Alaska Lodge this year is the chance to experience a small, trophy trout stream with miles of jet boat-accessible water never before open to the public. Rumors of large numbers of trophy fish inhabiting this modest-sized river are intriguing, to say the least. We're all anxious to get some clients on the water here, and see for ourselves just how good it is. Imagine having an entire stream, all to yourself, hooking numbers of 20-inch plus fish daily!
